Apache, Greenford Broadway

This independent menswear retailer has one of my favourite shop fronts. I love the hand painted sign and the name which was chosen because it was edgy and stylish. Until the 1960’s the cowboy was the hero of the movie but by the time this shop opened for business the Native American began to influence alternative fashion, becoming the icon of the outsider. This is the place to come if you like Rastafari inspired roots clothing and accessories, where metal fans can buy t-shirts and studded belts alongside regular customers who prefer more conventional suits and outerwear. Shops like this are struggling at the moment as they compete with local retail parks and huge malls like Westfield in Shepherds Bush, while facing increased rents and business rates.
