Wood End Library and Children’s Centre, Whitton Avenue West

This is a small local library that underwent “improvement” recently. I recognise the need to renovate and alter the interior to support a new generation of library users and believe that the ramp is absolutely necessary for access by wheelchair users and parents with pushchairs. However, I fail to understand why anyone thought the canopy over the door would enhance the exterior. It cheapens what was an attractive building that gave a nod to Georgian architecture with its symmetrical design, sash windows and side doors. The canopy obscures a view of the coat of arms of the Borough of Ealing over the entrance. One day someone will have the sense to remove this ugly and unnecessary addition.

  1. i regularly used that library as a child some 45 years ago, when we lived in Greenford Road.
