Christmas lights, Greenford Road

Advent has begun, which for some households means a colourful display. Fewer homes than usual are lit up this year, probably because of the rise in the cost of electricity. This one is impressive, the lights on the roof ridge flash and Rudolf’s legs move. The official Christmas lights in the centre of Greenford are modest in comparison and their effect is undermined by the continuing gas works and the demolition site that was once the Red Lion pub. A few Christmas trees have found their way into shop and restaurant windows.
