Look right, Whitton Avenue East at Greenford Road

This is a very busy junction, one that seems to put pedestrians at the mercy of drivers. Seconds after I took this the lights changed and the green man appeared but three cars jumped the lights, passing through this crossing. One section has nothing to indicate when pedestrians can cross – you have to guess and get your timing right. Considering that this is a residential area with quite a lot of people walking to and from local stations it is extraordinary that it seems so unsafe. Part of the problem is impatience, drivers feel they have an interminable wait at the lights, but I think the need to keep traffic moving has been given priority here.

Re: drivers jumping the lights – I raised this issue at the North Greenford Ward Police Panel on 9 Oct. Sgt Tither said he will refer the problem to the Traffic Unit based at Rowdell Road.

That’s great, thanks – it was really unnerving. There are no indicators on at least two points of the crossing to tell pedestrians where to cross which is bad enough without drivers jumping the lights.

Let me know what you think...
