Autumn colour, Westway Cross

Visitors to retail parks such as this one probably don’t notice the planting schemes most of the time which is a shame. In the case of Westway Cross the person responsible for the landscaping chose shrubs and trees that display beautiful autumn colour. Somehow this area, designed to accommodate cars, has to blend in with the fields alongside Horsenden Hill. There is quite a lot of relaxed, natural planting that includes oak trees at the edge of the car park, and some of the hedging takes on a golden glow at this time of year. I’m not sure what kind of tree this is but most of the others seem to be plane trees which looked particularly stark and dramatic when I photographed them in March.
