Apple tree, Clifton Road

This amazes me, an apple tree planted in the street. It’s one of three that I could see, laden with fruit. So many apples have fallen and been left on the ground that there is a sweet smell of damaged fruit. They look like a dessert variety and it seems a shame that they’ve been left to rot but they may be too close to a road with heavy traffic to be safe to eat. There are probably a lot of apple trees in Greenford’s back gardens and plenty of street trees that bear fruit but the choice of apple trees is unusual. I wonder who chose to plant them here and how old they are? Apple Day, promoted by Common Ground, is on October 21st and it would be great to see these trees decorated for that event.
