Ruptured water pipe, Middleton Avenue

The small hole in this section of pipe was responsible for the lack of water in several streets around Middleton Avenue today, affecting hundreds of people. Despite its being a Sunday the engineers arrived quickly and the supply was restored after the pipe was replaced. This kind of incident is quite common as pipes, some of them dating back to the 1930’s when the surrounding homes were built, begin to show their age. In this case the ruptured pipe probably dates from the 1970’s.
