Boundary wall, Downing Drive

One of the things I miss these days is the smell of creosote, once painted onto fences to preserve them. There aren’t as many fences now. For reasons of security, ease of maintenance and value for money some now feel that it is better to have a solid brick wall rather than traditional wooden slatted fences. Once a common part of the suburban landscape, the humble fence is now an endangered species.
