Parade of shops, Greenford Road at Costons Lane

This is one of my favourite parades of shops, probably dating from the 1930’s but with a distinct Arts and Crafts feel to it. I particularly like the way the roof of the central section drops down to street level with timber posts on either side. I despair that so many of these small parades have been demolished or altered as I believe we will come to regret their loss. Unfortunately these shops rely heavily on passing trade or committed customers. In recent years residents have come to prefer trips to retail parks for slightly cheaper “one stop” shopping trips, rendering these premises less viable and vulnerable to redevelopment.
