Alas, the well organised recycling scheme that the borough’s residents have come to take for granted has hit a snag. A change in contractors coincided with the Easter holidays. This has led to rubbish bags and boxes full of items ready for recycling being left outside homes across the borough for days after they were due to be collected. Foxes, rats, starlings and the political opposition in the borough have had a field day in the lead up to local elections. The leader of Ealing council has actually cycled around Greenford to look for and report bags and boxes. In reality a good number of these boxes would have been put out late anyway, by less organised households, but it’s all grist to the mill in politics.
